摘要
The photodegradation behavior of polycaprolactone-poly(ethylene glycol) block copolymer (PCE) was characterized by determining the change of mechanical properties, inherent viscosity and GPC chromatogram of PCE samples which were exposed to UV light. It was observed that the photodegradation rate of the PCE increased with increasing poly(ethylene glycol) content in the copolymer. The results indicated that the pure poly(ethylene glycol) (PEO) can not be photodegraded alone, but the carbonyl groups in PCL segment catalyze the breakage of PEO chains by a series of UV initiated free radical reactions. A mechanism for the photodegradation of PEO chains was proposed which accounts for the carbonyl group formation observed in the pure PEG. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
