Pressure effect on the elastic constants of magnetite

摘要
In order to investigate the low temperature transition of magnetite (Fe3O4) around T-v similar to 123 K, the longitudinal sound velocity has been measured above T-v under hydrostatic pressures Lip to 12 kbar. We observed that the sound velocity nu([110]) shows no pressure dependence, while the elastic constant C-11, which is calculated from nu([100]), has a large softening with increasing pressure below 250 K. The amount of softening of C-11 by applying pressure seems to obey the Curie-Weiss law with theta approximate to 120 K except near T-v.
