Frequency-refined multiresolution decomposition using wavelet splitting

摘要
Frequency resolution of wavelet transform is further refined by splitting wavelets along selected directions into wavelet packets. Since the spectral distributions of wavelet packets lie within that of the wavelets, the narrowness of their spectral support contributes to improved frequency resolution. Experimental results show that such wavelet splitting offers better compression and recovery scores than the standard wavelet transform. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
