We developed a room-temperature synthetic method of preparing MxFe3-xO4 (M = Cu, Zn, Fe, Ni, Co, Mn, and Mg) or MxZnsimilar to0.3Fesimilar to2.7-xO4 ultra fine particles from an aqueous solution, utilizing Fe2+ --> Fe3+ oxidation by air (oxygen). The synthesis was performed in open air and at near neutral conditions of pH = 7-9. The particles were similar to10 nm in size and of spinel structure. All the particles had saturation magnetization that compared favorably with those of bulk samples. The solubility limit in x into the MxFe3-xO4 particles increased as the ratio Fe3+/Fe2+ in the reaction solution increased.
