Staging of acute pancreatitis

Staging of acute pancreatitis is performed early, by combining the clinical and laboratory examination with the results of the CT imaging, obtained during a bolus of IV contrast administration. The clinical evaluation is based mostly on numerical grading systems that correlate systemic indices with severity of disease. CT evaluation is based on CT grading and the CT severity index, which correlates the presence and the degree of gland necrosis and fluid collections with mortality and morbidity.
