There is no doubt that molecular tests provide a significant advancement in many areas related to laboratory diagnosis of infections including susceptibility testing. However, there are also many aspects that make it very unlikely that cultures and traditional methods to detect resistance will be replaced completely by such tests in the foreseeable future.
