Three discrete multilayered vessels with the same materials and dimensions except for steel ribbon winding angles were fabricated and tested to investigate their dynamic response and fracture characteristics subjected to internal blast loading induced by TNT set at the centers of their cavities. All the vessels were damaged at the cylindrical portion around the explosion center. The results indicate that the vessel with a smaller ribbon winding angle has a better ability to withstand internal explosion and that there are mainly tensile strains along the steel ribbons and compressive strains across the steel ribbons.
