Hysteresis losses in power-law cryoconductors

Hysteresis losses have been studied by dimensional analysis for superconductors that have a broad resistive transition in which the resistivity increases as a power n of the current density. Also included in the analysis is a possible dependence of the critical current density on magnetic field. The analysis shows that the exponents of the power-law dependences of the hysteresis loss on current (current-driven losses), magnetic field (field-driven losses), and AC frequency are rather insensitive to the n-value. Thus as far as these exponents go, the critical-state model (n = infinity o) appears to be accurate. (C) Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
