The diffraction efficiency of nonsynchronously sampled diffraction grating was discussed. The theoretical predictions were compared with experimental results using the liquid crystal display (LCD). The results demonstrated the flexibility and value of programmable LCD for encoding arbitrary difractive optical elements.
