摘要
Organisms respond to injury by attempting to restore homeostasis, which involves a coordination of the immune, inflammatory, cardiovascular, endocrine, and nervous systems. In most situations, the host mounts an appropriate response in most situations. At times, however, deviation occurs, and inflammation may be sustained, leading to systemic inflammatory response syndrome, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, and, at times, death.
