Metal-free methods in the synthesis of macrocyclic Schiff bases

摘要
An overview is given of an approach toward the design and optimization of symmetrical and unsymmetrical macrocyclic Schiff bases. Focus is on data dealing with the synthesis of macrocyclic azomethines under metal-free conditions. Topics discussed include (1) the synthesis of macrocyclic Schiff bases of symmetric structure: [n+n]-condensation, n = 2-4, (2) the synthesis of macrocyclic Schiff bases of nonsymmetric structure: strategy for fragment-to-fragment assembling from enlarged building blocks and (3) anionic template effect in formation of macrocyclic ligand Schiff bases.
