A multilayer blue-emitting organic electroluminescent (EL) device using 5,5'-bis(dimzsityl-boryl)-2,2'-bithiophene (BMB-2T) as a blue-emitting amorphous molecular material and 4.4'.4 "-tris(3-methylphenylphenylamino) triphenylamine (m-MTDATA) and tri(o-terphenyl-4-yl)amine (o-TTA) as hole-transporting amorphous molecular materials was fabricated. The multilayer EL device, ITO/m-MTDATA(300 Angstrom)/o-TTA(200 Angstrom)/BMB-2T(200 Angstrom)MgAg, emitted bright-blue light resulting from BMB-2T, exhibiting relatively very high performances with a maximum luminance of 1700 ed m(-2) at a driving voltage of 17 V and luminous and external quantum efficiencies of 0.08 lm W-1 and 0.24%, respectively, at a luminance of 300 ed m(-2).
