Control of transient thermoelastic displacement of an isotropic plate associated with a piezoelectric ceramic plate

A solid-state actuator that is able to control a transient thermoelastic displacement induced by temperature change of the surrounding medium is proposed The actuator is constructed of an isotropic structural plate to which a piezoelectric ceramic plate of crystal class 6 mm is perfectly bonded. This three-dimensional problem of thermoelasticity in the combined plate is analyzed by means of the potential function methods. Consequently, an appropriate electric potential applied to the piezoelectric ceramic plate is obtained that gives the prescribed normal elastic displacement on the free surface of the isotropic structural plate. Finally, numerical results are illustrated graphically.
