Mathematical modeling of changes in chlorophyll fluorescence induction caused by herbicides

Chlorophyll fluorescence induction curves of cereal leaves measured during herbicide action were simulated by a mathematical model based on description of electron transfer through photosystem II to a plastoquinone pool. To obtain results comparable with experimental measurements, we considered three kinds of photosystem II centers: Q(B)-reducing, Q(B)-nonreducing, and inactive centers. We compared the parameters calculated using mathematical simulations with experimental parameters obtained with barley and wheat leaves treated with triazine-and urea-type herbicides. A good agreement between simulated and experimental parameters was found. (C) 1997 Academic Press.
