In the case of Regina v. Adams [1996], DNA evidence seemed to suggest that there was a 1 in 200 million chance that an innocent person would match the DNA found at the crime scene. Peter Donnelly explains how he subsequently became involved in the case and found himself trying to explain Bayes' theorem to judge and jury. (See p.18 for an explanation).
