Synthesis and apparent bandgap of nanophase zirconia

摘要
The synthesis of zirconia at low temperature from an aqueous solution of zirconium oxyhydroxide results typically in a metastable tetragonal phase. To shed light on this phenomena, an experiment was conducted on UV-visible spectra and band gap measurements on zirconia samples prepared without stabilizing oxides by an original method and differing in crystallographic structure and particle size. High purity zirconia and hafnia samples are also studied for comparison.
