摘要
The isothermal oxidation behavior of binary Ti-25 at.%Al was studied ar 1073, 1173, and 1273 K in air and oxygen with emphasis on the microstructure of the subsurface zone underneath the external oxide scale. Thermogravimetric analysis, acoustic-emission (AE) analysis, light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) atomic force microscopy (AFM), and cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were carried out. Three layers could be identified in the subsurface region consisting of an internal oxidation zone of alpha-Al2O3, and alpha-Ti, a ternary phase with the empirical formula Ti-21Al-15O (at.%), and an oxygen penetration zone consisting of alpha(2)-Ti3Al(O).
