Relation between sidelobes and Coulomb corrections in high-order above-threshold ionization

Treating above-threshold ionization of hydrogen within the framework of the Keldysh-Faisal-Reiss model but representing the ionized electron by a more precise Coulomb-Volkov wave, we find sidelobes in the angular distribution of the emitted electrons at about the right high nonlinear order and in the correct angular range as observed experimentally for inert gases. For hydrogen, however, these sidelobes are small and hence no plateau shows up in the integrated nonlinear ionization rates. But by using a different trial wavefunction for the ground state, the indication of a plateau and the enhancement of the sidelobes can be easily demonstrated.
