Third-harmonic generation in a noncentrosymmetrical crystal: direct third-order or cascaded second-order process?

摘要
An efficient optical third-harmonic generation has been observed in a single piece of nonlinear crystal. A good fit to the calculated phasematching angles verifies that the cascaded process of second-harmonic conversion and sum-frequency mixing yields a reasonable conversion efficiency for third-harmonic generation regardless of phase mismatching in the stage of second-harmonic conversion. A calculation of the effective nonlinear susceptibilities also concludes that two different types of phase-matching are responsible for the observed efficient conversion.
