摘要
Chip substrates are versatile foundations for completely integrated small, sensitive, intrinsically safe, miniature optical waveguide chemical and biochemical sensors (OWCBS). Their ability to detect and quantify multiple analytes gives them a special role in the areas of detection and measurement. Their capability to operate both in air and water is a big advantage over other sensor technologies. Passive and active in situ real-time data acquisition make them particularly effective for a variety of data-collection and monitoring applications. Their small size allows them to be placed in even the most restricted areas. OWCBS have easily interchangeable chemistries and biochemistries, and waveguide configurations that optimize flexibility and minimize obsolescence. Possible applications of the chip-based sensors are now the focus. Initial target-compound coverage includes hydrocarbons, illicit drugs, pesticides/herbicides and carbon monoxide.
