Surface modification of La(Sr)MnO3 electrodes

摘要
We have investigated the effect of chemical treatment of La0.6Sr0.4MnO3 (LSM-6) and La0.5Sr0.4MnO3 (LSM-5) electrodes in contact with the Zr0.9Y0.1O1.95 solid electrolyte on the electrode overpotential. Praseodymium and tin oxides, cobaltites La0.5Sr0.5CoO3-delta and Pr0.5Sr0.5CoO3-delta with perovskite-type structure and metallic silver have been studied as activating agents. It has been found that the overpotential of the manganite electrodes can be reduced either by applying praseodymia to their surface or by adding silver to the electrode composition before sintering. The activating effect of praseodymia treatment has been demonstrated to be determined by the valence states of praseodymium cations. No influence of the investigated activating agents on the sheet resistance of the electrode layers has been found.
