Advantages of T-cell- and antibody-based immunotherapy can be combined by grafting cytotoxic T lymphocytes with chimeric receptors composed of antibody fragments (which recognize tumor-cell antigen) and a cellular activation motif. Here, Hinrich Abken and colleagues discuss the potential of this approach for immunotherapy of malignant diseases.
