Differential thermal analysis of magnetic transitions at high pressure: Neel temperature of NiO up to 8 GPa

The method of differential thermal analysis is applied to the study of magnetic transitions at high hydrostatic pressure up to 9 GPa. It is very useful for detecting the antiferroparamagnetic transition temperature in insulating solids under high pressure, which is difficult to observe by other methods. The Neel temperature of NiO was found to increase under pressure at a rate dT(N)/dP=7.33 K/GPa. This result is in good agreement with the high pressure two-magnon Raman scattering experiments.
