摘要
The field of palliative medicine has tremendous potential for contributing to AMCs. AMCs are facing increasing demographic pressures of chronic advanced illness and the upcoming inevitable changes associated with health care reform. Palliative medicine, with its emphasis on patient-centered complex illness care, and on innovative health care delivery models, is positioned to play a key role in assisting the AMC to thrive under these changing conditions. AMCs will need to be knowledgeable about the special attributes of palliative care, including its administrative and organizational needs, in order for palliative medicine, the newest medical subspecialty, to grow and succeed. © 2010 U.S. Cancer Pain Relief Committee.
