The potential for terbinafine in non-dermatophyte fungal infections with or without skin involvement

Fungal infections with skin involvement in which terbinafine can potentially be used include Malassezia infections such as pityriasis versicolor, seborrhoeic dermatitis and dandruff; mucosal and cutaneous Candida infections; and the traditional subcutaneous mycoses such as sporotrichosis, chromoblastomycosis, mycetoma and phaeohyphomycosis. The use of terbinafine in the treatment of systemic mycoses such as aspergillosis, cryptococcosis, histoplasmosis, blastomycosis, Pneumocystis carinii infection and Penicillium marneffei infection also needs to be investigated.
