Fermi-liquid description for susceptibility maximum and near-metamagnetism in heavy-fermion compounds

摘要
The susceptibility maximum and near-metamagnetic behaviours observed commonly in heavy-fermion compounds can be explained by the Fermi-liquid model in terms of the logarithmic temperature (T) and magnetization (M) dependence of the free energy. It is shown that, in prototype substances, the variation of susceptibility follows precisely a T-2 In T law and two scaling laws in accordance with theoretical predictions. Near-metamagnetic behaviours can be attributed to a steep peak in the partial derivative M/partial derivative H versus M curves arising also from a logarithmic term. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
