Seven-coordinated diaquasuccinatocadmium(II) bidimensional polymer: Crystal structure and vibrational and thermal behavior

Diaquasuccinatocadmium(II) has been studied by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and FTIR and Raman spectroscopies at room temperature, The structure consists of seven-coordinated Cd atoms bridged by succinate ions to form two-dimensional polymers perpendicular to the b axis. Hydrogen bonds embracing one of the coordination water molecule and a carboxylate residue stabilize the three-dimensional structure, The spectroscopic data are consistent with the structural model. Thermal dehydration and decomposition processes have been also investigated using TC-DTA measurements, FTIR spectroscopy, and powder Xray diffraction analysis. A phase transition of the amorphous anhydrous compound to a stable crystalline phase was observed at 262 degrees C. (C) 2000 Academic Press.
