A number of unsolved questions concern the deep integration of 3D objects as new type of generalized document into digital libraries. In a few years, massive problems in 3D data management will be the immediate consequence as the widespread use of 3D technology is drastically increasing the number, as well as the size, of 3D documents. © 2007 IEEE.
