摘要
This article provides information about the usefulness of a phenomenological approach to intercultural relations research that seeks: to gain insight into the lived experiences of cultural group members traditionally marginalized in research and theory. It is presented as an alternative to traditional social scientific research that has been criticized for coating 'caricatures' to represent certain racial and ethnic groups. The article includes a detailed description of the key assumptions and three step process of this humanistic methodological approach. Finally a brief discussion is offered as to the primary challenge inherent in utilizing phenomenology in race/ethnicity research. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
