Calcium-strontium hydroxyapatite: Hydrothermal preparation

Trimetallic phosphates are known to evolve in aqueous medium to form hydroxyapatite. This work studies the evolution of mixed strontium-calcium phosphate;the reaction was increased by working in hydrothermal conditions (770 degrees C, 90 MPa, 24 hours). In all cases, formation of a hydroxyapatite Me-10(PO4)(6)(OH)(2) with the same Sr/(Sr+Ca) ratio as the initial phosphate was observed. This ratio determines the rate of transformation. In the used experimental conditions, the only phosphate to be completely transformed was the tricalcium one.
