Immunizations during HIV infection

The safety and efficacy of immunizing HIV-infected persons for other diseases has been controversial. Transient increases in HIV viral load have been reported in some but not all studies of immunization, and are unlikely to have adverse clinical consequences, particularly in the era of more active antiretroviral therapy. Although the serological response to immunization is reduced in the HIV-infected host, recent data suggest that it has some clinical efficacy. (C) 1998 Rapid Science Ltd.
