Photorefractive-damage-resistant Er-indiffused MgO:LiNbO3 ZnO-waveguide amplifiers and lasers

摘要
The authors report the first 980nm pumped 1.5 mu m optical amplifiers and lasers in z-cut Er-indiffused MgO:LiNbO3. Using a ZnO indiffused waveguide, these devices show greatly reduced photorefractive damage and stable amplification (0.86dB/cm gain at 60mW pump) and lasing (38 mu W output power at 70mW pump). Low threshold pump powers of 12 and 30mW are obtained for the amplifier and the laser, respectively.
