Research into community care for people with schizophrenia has concentrated on patient groups with special needs, such as substance abuse or homelessness. Balanced service provision will increasingly rely on epidemiologically based research, and an integrated approach to systems of care. Specific treatment inputs, along with issues of treatment adherence and other process variables, are receiving increasing research attention (C) 1998 Rapid Science Publishers.
