Anisotropy study of the spin-lattice relaxation rates at the Cu(1) chain sites of YBa2Cu3O7 and YBa2Cu4O8

Anisotropies of the spin-lattice relaxation rates (1/T-1) at the Cu(1) sites of YBa2Cu3O7 and YBa2Cu4O8 were examined using the NMR/NQR methods. The anisotropy data enabled us to infer approximate q-dependences and anisotropies of the form factors (F-alpha(q(y)), alpha = a, b, c) at Cu(1). We found that the anisotropies in YBa2Cu3O7 are explainable only in terms of the hyperfine fields within a single chain, while these hyperfine fields do not account for anisotropies in YBa2Cu4O8. As a possible explanation for the situation in YBa2Cu4O8, effects of the transferred hyperfine fields from the other chain of the double Cu-O chains are discussed.
