Closeting and the quality of lesbian relationships

Analysis of data collected from 124 lesbians currently involved in a couple relationship indicated that closeting is related to the couple's relationship quality. Openness vs. secrecy with family and friends is most highly associated with the quality of their relationship. Further analyses suggested that particular family be haviors-inviting a member's lesbian partner to family events and accepting demonstrations of affection between the couple-can Influence their relationship. These findings underscore the importance of support from family members and indicate the need far future studies to Include multiple measures of closeting.
