Reciprocal interactions between the neuroendocrine and immune systems during inflammation

The concept that emotions, humor, and behavior affect disease dates back from the days of Galen and Hippocrates. Although the question of how emotions affect disease has been a subject of popular interest and debate in many cultures, it is only recently that we have applied technologic tools to dissect, quantify, and trace molecular pathways, which have revealed that disruptions in the cross talk between the neural, endocrine, and immune systems can contribute to disease pathophysiology.
