Formation and characterization of a new (LixAg1-x)2SO4 (x≤0.5) phase

摘要
A new solid solution (LixAg1-x)(2)SO4 (x less than or equal to 0.50) phase with orthorhombic structure, similar to beta-Ag2SO4, is found when calcining a mixture of Li2SO4 and Ag2SO4 above 550 degrees C and cooling to room temperature. A thermal analysis revealed that the high temperature stable bcc (LixAg1-x)(2)SO4 phase underwent two exothermic effects corresponding to the phase diagram on cooling, and a sharp exotherm at 340.2 degrees C responsible for the formation of the orthorhombic phase. Long time heating treatment showed that it is a metastable phase. Measurement indicated that the conductivity of the sample with 30 mol% Li2SO4 was higher than that of the 50 mol% Li2SO4 sample. The results are discussed in terms of the Li+ ion distribution in both interstitial and lattice sites. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
