Model identification of batch precipitations: application to salicylic acid

摘要
Batch precipitations of salicylic acid are modelled in order to determine the kinetics of the different crystallization mechanisms. The population balance equation, relating the crystal size distribution (CSD), is discretized and solved with the method of classes. Primary and secondary nucleations and chemical and diffusion controlled growth are taken into account. The model, which involves six kinetic parameters, was fitted to the measured supersaturation profiles and the final CSDs of three experiments by numerical optimization. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
