The anisotropy of the Portevin-Le Chatelier effect in aluminum alloys

摘要
The as received strip cast aluminum-magnesium alloy (AA 5182) shows a strong anisotropy of the intensity of the Portevin-Le Chatelier (PLC) effect with regard to the rolling direction (RD), transverse direction (TD) and 45° from the rolling direction (QD). The magnitude of the stress drops (Δσ) of serrations is largest for TD, smallest for RD, with QD in between but closer to TD. However, no such serration intensity difference exists between RD, QD and TD in DC hot band and solution treated SC hot band although it reappears after subsequent cold rolling.
