This paper is a technical survey of the power failure which affected the Israel electrical network on June 8, 1995. As a result of the failure about 70% of the consumers were disconnected from the energy supply. In the first part of the paper, the general system characteristics and the condition of the network before the incident are summarized. In the second part, the events during and after the failure are described. The third part summarizes the lessons learned from the power blackout and outlines future strategies to be adopted by IECo.
