摘要：

The alpha-glucosidase inhibitor 1,4-dideoxy-1,4-imino-D-arabinitol (DAB-1) 8 is synthesised in ten steps from D-serine with an overall yield of 49%; the key step of this synthesis makes use of the readily prepared serine-derived alpha-dibenzylamino aldehyde 3 in a highly diastereoselective glycolate aldol reaction.
