Epilepsy is a common and often neglected illness in developing countries requiring a conscious effort by health workers. especially at community level, to enhance access to regular treatment and to motivate patients to continue treatment. Effective news drugs have recently come on to the market. However. their high cost means that they often cannot be afforded by poor countries. Strengthening local and national level organizations may help to motivate health workers and the public, improving health services for those with epilepsy and preventing serious complications.
