(figure represented) Cutting across: Direct arylations are increasingly viable alternatives to conventional cross-coupling reactions with stoichiometric amounts of organometallic reagents (see Scheme). This Review summarizes recent progress in the rapidly evolving research area of transition-metalcatalyzed C-H bond-cleavage reactions for (hetero)aryl syntheses. © 2009 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA.
