Selective air oxidation of dimethyl sulfide to dimethyl sulfoxide catalysed by aminopolycarboxylatoruthenium(III) complex

摘要
Reactions of (RuL)-L-III(H2O) (L = aminopolycarboxylic ligands viz. edta, pdta, hedtra) with dimethylsulfide (DMS) and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) were studied by using spectrophotometric, electrochemical and kinetic methods. [Ru-III(DMS)] complexes formed by the interaction of (RuL)-L-III(H2O) and DMS undergo oxidation when exposed to air to yield DMSO and (RuL)-L-III(H2O) back. Under identical condition [(RuL)-L-III(DMSO)] complexes do not undergo any further oxidation to produce dimethyl sulfone. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
