The review covers the different uses that have been investigated for dipyririns and the advances that have been made toward rendering dipyrrins and their metal complexes more available to researchers who do not specialize in dipyrrin synthesis. Topics covered include the syntheses and properties of dipyrrins, the syntheses and properties of dipyrrinato complexes, and related dipyrrin structures such as calix[4]phyrin(1.1.1)s, bis(dipyrrin)s, propentdyopent, tripyrrin and tripyrrinone, bilene-b and iminopyrrole.
