Self-cleaning perfluoropolyether based coatings

摘要
Low surface energy has been often recognised as the key factor in achieving the self-cleanability of the coating. Recent Japanese developments have shown that the correct matching of the fluorinated backbone to some UV- resistant functional groups linked to the main chain can fit the requirement. In this context, the functional derivatives of a perfluoropolyether (PFPE) named Fluorobase Z have been studied. The intrinsic properties of the PFPE structure such as low viscosity, high chain flexibility, excellent chemical and thermal inertness contribute greatly to the successful utilisation of these resins in the high solid formulations for coil coatings. The bifunctional OH-terminated PFPE derivative con be applied in combination with blocked IPDI isocyanate for vp to 85% wt. solids. Cured Fluorobase Z films ore able to fulfil completely the standard specifications for coil coatings. Moreover, clear and pigmented films have high gross, good weatherability, excellent blocking resistance and outstanding stein release properties. Both 'maintenance-free' and 'good-washable' surfaces can be obtained due to the particular chemical structure of surface layer.
