摘要
The influence of the oxygen concentration and temperature on the UV-degradation chemistry of polyethylene is described. The degradations are characterized by measuring the oxygen uptake. the formation of CO and CO2, the FT-IR spectra and the mechanical properties. At high temperatures (40-50 degrees C) an increase in the oxygen pressure (air versus 100% oxygen atmosphere) leads to a decrease of IR detectable products and to a higher amount of reacted oxygen necessary to cause mechanical failure. However, at low temperatures (29 degrees C) the influence of oxygen pressure is negligible. The results are explained assuming that the initiation of the photo-degradation is due to charge transfer complexes. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Limited.
