Intertwinings of periodic sequences

摘要：

A study of nonperiodic sequences {w(j)}(j is an element of Z) which are intertwinings of two periodic sequences with maximal overlap. Expressions in terms of Beatty sequences {[ci + d]}(i is an element of Z) are given in case (i) both periodic sequences have the same periodic cycle and in case (ii) the periodic sequences have coprime periods. The extreme sequences in case (i) occur in a paper of Morse and Hedlund [9] and in case (ii) in a paper by Coven and Hedlund [3].
