Uniaxial compression tests were carried out at epsilon = 10(-2) s(-1) and T = 0.7 T-m to epsilon = 1.5 on 1199 Al (99.99%) single and polycrystals, and 1200 Al (99.5%) polycrystals. The deformed microstructures were then investigated by optical and scanning electron microscopy, and electron back-scattered diffraction. Continuous dynamic recrystallization (CDRX), i.e., the transformation of subgrain into grain boundaries was brought into evidence in the single crystal experiments, whereas both CDRX and geometric dynamic recrystallization (GDRX), i.e., the flattening and fragmentation of the initial grains, operate simultaneously in polycrystals.
