A major driver of the energy market is the increasing demand for energy. An analysis by the Royal Society of London and The Royal Academy of engineering suggest that future energy requirements will be 1.4 times than the present demand by 2020, and between two and three times by 2050. Left to the market, the demand will be largely met by fossil fuels. The consequences of the massive and increasing combustion of fossil fuels are raising the concentration of carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere. The dire consequences of the resultant global warming are already perceived. The energy marketplace with some energy policies have the power to deliver environmental protection expectations.
